Plywood Dimension Converter
Convert plywood sheet size and thickness between metric (mm) and imperial (inches / feet) — exact to 1/64", with area in m² and ft². Asian plywood is made to exact metric sizes; US “4×8” and “3/4"” are nominal trade names that don't match exact feet and inches.

Asian to American Plywood Size Conversion
Asian plywood — manufactured in Vietnam, Indonesia, China and Malaysia — uses metric dimensions in millimeters. North American lumber yards and distributors sell plywood in feet, inches and fractions. Understanding the conversion is essential for importers, builders and distributors buying from Asian mills.
Why 18 mm = “3/4 inch” (but isn't really)
The most common plywood thickness from Asia is 18 mm. In the US market this is universally sold as 3/4" plywood. But true 3/4" = 19.05 mm; the nearest exact fraction to 18 mm is 45/64" (≈ 0.709"). This nominal-vs-actual sizing is standard practice — specify tolerances carefully for precision work like cabinetry.
Tips for importers
- Always specify in mm. When ordering from Asian factories, use exact millimeter dimensions to avoid confusion.
- Confirm tolerances. Standard tolerance is ±0.5 mm for thickness and ±2 mm for length/width.
- Document both units. On invoices and packing lists, show both mm and the imperial equivalent.
- 18 mm ≠ 19 mm. If your customer needs true 3/4" (19.05 mm), order 19 mm — not 18 mm.
